What do you most love about One TWU?

I love the people, and the community that we are able to create, but most of all I love that it’s a place to exist and authentically be myself.

What do you most love about One TWU?

When I first heard about One TWU in my first semester, I was too nervous to show up. But when I finally attended my first meeting a year later, I realized what I had been missing. A space where I feel loved, heard, and safe. Since then, One TWU has become an integral part of my journey at TWU. Now as a student director, I get to listen, to celebrate, and to walk alongside students.

One of my favourite quotes is:

"We don't need to see eye to eye to walk arm in arm". That’s the kind of community I believe in - one where we don’t have to agree on everything to stand beside each other in love. I believe in a God who sees and loves us fully – and that kind of love calls us to extend grace, compassion, and belonging to others.

What do you most love about One TWU?

So many things. My TWU grad quote, by Janet Mock, is a good summary of some of my favourite things about One TWU: “I believe that telling our stories, first to ourselves and then to one another and the world, is a revolutionary act. It is an act that can be met with hostility, exclusion, and violence. It can also lead to love, understanding, transcendence, and community.” I love One TWU for the opportunities to raise consciousness, the strong friendships and mutual support. the space to process and share our stories, and as a place to shine as our fabulous selves.

What do you most love about One TWU?

The unique and invaluable opportunity it offers students. If I'd had more safe spaces to take off my mask, it might not have taken so long to reconcile my queerness and faith. I love the community and connection we're able to build here that extends far beyond graduation.

What do you most love about One TWU?

My hope for the church is that we can put community first, and put politics behind us. It's extremely discouraging to see some church leaders STILL believe it's their part to choose who sits at the table or not. I LOVE One TWU because it's an ever-growing table and it provides a space for TWU community members who might otherwise never have met an LGBTQIA2S+ person. I also love the people. So many of my "people" are because of One TWU. I guess that's multiple things...

What do you most love about One TWU?

Possibility, hospitality, hope. As American poet laureate Amanda Gorman says, “There is always light if only we are brave enough to see it. There's always light if only we're brave enough to be it."
